SHUR-GAIN AQUACULTURE HACCP CERTIFIED

November 9, 2001

On November 9, 2001 a full system audit was performed at the Shur-Gain Truro Aquaculture plant. The extruded fish feed, pelleted fish feed, fish supplement, and micro premix processes within the plant have been certified to meet the requirements of the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada (ANAC) / SGS Feed Safety Program Standard. These standards incorporate key elements of the guidelines and regulations for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems, set out by the Codex Alimentarius Commission and by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

HACCP provides a systematic approach to analyzing a production operation for microbiological, chemical and physical hazards and then puts in place, where possible, processes to control identified hazards. HACCP provides documentation that allows any problems that might occur to be traced back to the source or cause.

GMP's or standard operating procedures (SOP's) are a prerequisite to HACCP and provide optimum control of hazards that are likely to occur. GMP's covers the following - Premises, Receiving Storage and Transportation, Sanitation, Equipment Performance and Maintenance, Personnel Training, Manufacturing Controls and Documentation, and Health and Safety Recalls.
