Shur-Gain has long been recognized as a leader in the dairy
sectors. Shur-Gain's focus has been on research and developing new

for livestock producers.
Nutreco Canada Agresearch has conducted over 150 dairy related trials to
ensure our products and programs are effective on farm. A major emphasis
for Shur-Gain is to incorporate research into the Shur-Gain Perfolact / Perfo-Lait
Dairy Nutrition Modelling program. Over 250 different ingredients have been
extensively evaluated and analyzed. Our comprehensive database coupled
with Shur-Gain’s vast knowledge of animal growth and production
parameters is incorporated into Perfolact / Perfo-Lait. Integral to the Perfolact / Perfo-Lait
model is our novel Potential digestibility (PD) analysis which allows the true value of on-farm
forages to be recognized in the model. Potential digestibility allows the model to meet dairy cow
requirements using on-farm forage and grain as a custom product designed specifically for each operation.
The Shur-Gain Perfolact / Perfo-Lait formulates rations based on a ‘best-cost’
option – delivering the lowest feed cost / hectolitre of milk in the
industry! The Shur-Gain Perfolact / Perfo-Lait Program allows producers to
fully utilize the value of on-farm commodities. Perfolact / Perfo-Lait can
evaluate the ‘worth ‘ of these products based on protein, amino acids,
energy, mineral and carbohydrate contribution. This allows the dairy
producer to choose the right commodity at the right price!
In 2007, a new version of the model will be released incorporating an unique approach to energy supply from feeds, as well the ability to incorporate rumen active feed additive benefits into the formulation.
 Shur-Gain also recognizes how important it is to have
the best trained and highly skilled people on farm through its DNA
program.
Beef Sector
 Shur-Gain also has an extensive program and product
line for beef producers. The
Shur-Gain Perfo-Beef modelling program balances rations and predicts performance. Perfo-Beef considers factors such
as: age, sex, breed type, body condition, additives
implants and environment. The Shur-Gain Perfo-Beef program provides economic information and
performance predictions to help producers make the right decisions.
